    Thank you for the instruction, sir. I wonder where Saito-sensei's "striking system" came from. Was it originated from the Yokogi-uchi practice? I follow Horii Etsuji-shihan, and personally I think the "cutting system" here makes a lot more sense.

      I have to agree. I don’t know much about about Saito sensei’s sword-work, other than he said he learned it from O Sensei. I’ve never really seen much similarity between the sword-work of O Sensei and Saito Sensei.

Valley Aikido was founded by Paul Sylvain Sensei...who was a special apprentice to Chiba until Sylvain Senei passed away in 1996. How did that happen wasn't it calibrated. Or updated?

    • @JulianFrostAikido
      @JulianFrostAikido 4 года назад

      Everything was calibrated, and it was running the latest firmware. That started a several month-long and still unsolved saga with DJI. They refused to replace the Mavic under the Refresh insurance I'd purchased, stating that I'd have to send the crashed Mavic back. When given access to the video of the crash, the logs of the flight, Google maps images of the crash area, they agreed it would be too dangerous for me to attempt a recovery and told me NOT to recover the drone. In the same breath, they told me that since I would not be recovering the aircraft, they would not replace it under their Refresh insurance! They gave me a 40% off coupon to purchase a new Mavic, which I did. The replacement drifted to the right by as much as 100 yards for every 300 yards of forward flight. I demanded a replacement, and was sent a refurbished unit (with who knows how many hours' flight time and crashes) in exchange for my brand new Mavic! I sent that back and was sent another new Mavic, which had the same severe drifting issues. All in all, I went through 5 replacements, during which time I was repeatedly lied to by DJI (told the replacement was flight tested; promised flight footage; promised test flight logs; promised new replacements not refurbished etc), sent refurbished units, and even my original malfunctioning replacement unit (a mistake, they said), before they simply claimed that "everything was working within specs" and that was the end of it! I still have a Mavic Pro that has about 3 hours of flight time on it since 2017, because it won't fly in a straight line (all other equipment has been tested, calibrated and found to be working correctly). After posting on the DJI forums, dozens of people reported the same issues, after which DJI tried to hide the forum posts! According to DJI, if your Mavic Pro flies in a straight line when commanded to do so, it is not working properly... Because when it drifts badly off to the right, THAT is "working properly" and "within specifications", according to DJI! I have other DJI equipment which is also faulty and which DJI will not fix. I have sworn never to buy DJI equipment ever again. It looks like the US government may well ban the import and sale of DJI drones in the near future anyway!

    • @JulianFrostAikido
      @JulianFrostAikido 3 года назад

      I do not, but it's not so hard to hear what he is saying: Three variations, Jodan, Chudan, Gedan. Chudan is the basic. Concentrate on irimi. Hand motion is not straight down and back, but a spiral. Pull the collar, with the elbow down. There are 4 stages of iriminage. You have to integrate the basics into the variations. Penetrate through uke (by stepping through) to throw. Next stage, you don't have to step through uke (because you bring uke around you) as long as you bring uke against your shoulder. First spiral movement is downwards, then upwards. Four stages from Aihanmi Chudan: #1 - Irimi (Basic/Kihon); #2 - Irimi Tenkan; #3 - Irimi Tenkan (brining uke around your front leg); #4 - Irimi Tenkan (bringing uke around your front leg, then stepping around uke).

      As one of his uchi deshi and kenshusei, I agree that he was a stickler about the basics (kihon). His weapons basics are directly related to body arts so there was (is) a positive reinforcement of body arts basics whenever you do weapons - and vice versa.

      I believe this video contains the absolute essence of Chiba sensei's aikido. Watch his body positioning and how he moves to uke's blind spot. Watch how he bends his knees and gets under uke's center. He throws by taking uke's center with his (Chiba's) body. The movement of his arms, while powerful in and of itself, is secondary to his hip rotation. His timing is impeccable... he cuts uke down and adds his own force to that of uke as uke scrambles to regain his balance. There is so much to see in this video, if the viewer has the eyes to see it.
